IslamicGo Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the IslamicGo app and the islamicgo.com website collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and how you can delete it. It covers the Android app, the iOS app and this website.
In short
- IslamicGo shows no ads, contains no advertising or analytics SDKs, and never sells your data or shares it for advertising.
- Prayer times and the qibla are calculated on your phone, and your coordinates are never sent to our servers.
- You can use the whole app without an account. An account exists only if you choose to sign in.
- Questions you ask the AI are sent to an AI provider to compose the answer and are deleted from our server after 90 days.
Who we are
IslamicGo is the app and website described in this policy, and we are responsible for the personal data it handles. For any privacy question or request, write to support@islamicgo.com.
What we collect and why
Location
Prayer times, the qibla direction and the nearest city are calculated on your phone, or inside your browser when you use islamicgo.com. The app asks for location only while it is open and never tracks you in the background, and if you decline you can choose your city by hand. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers. The mosque times you enter to match your mosque also stay on your phone.
Anonymous device ID
The first time you open the app, or use Ask on the website, our server creates a random device ID and a signed token for it. We store that ID with your platform (Android, iOS or web), your app language and the date it was created. It is not tied to your name, phone number or advertising ID, and we use it to apply daily limits and to keep your reports and khatam groups together.
Questions to Ask AI
When you use Ask, the app sends us your question together with your app settings, which are your language, country, Asr school, calculation method and the name of the city you chose. Our server ignores the city name and does not store it.
To compose the answer, our server sends the question, up to six earlier messages from the same conversation and the Quran, hadith and tafsir passages it found to an AI model made by Anthropic (Claude), through the OpenRouter service. Your name, email address and location are never part of that request.
We store each question with its answer, the sources cited, the AI model used, its cost and the country the request came from, as reported by Cloudflare from your IP address. These records are kept for up to 90 days so that reports of wrong answers can be reviewed, and a daily job deletes them after that. Ask works the same way in the app and on the website.
Goals and commands
The goal you type or speak when you first open the app, and the commands you give in the command bar, are sent with your app settings to the same Anthropic model through OpenRouter so the app can arrange your Home screen and plan. We do not store this text once the reply has been sent back. When the command bar recognises a religious question, that question is answered by Ask and kept as described above.
Voice input
If you tap the microphone, your phone's built-in speech recognition turns your voice into text. On Android this service is provided by Google and on iOS by Apple, and they may process the audio under their own privacy policies. IslamicGo receives only the resulting text, never the audio.
Daily limits and abuse protection
To apply daily limits, such as the number of free Ask answers, our server counts requests for each device or account. To stop one network from creating thousands of devices or free answers, it also counts requests per IP address, but it stores only a keyed hash of the address (a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the address). These counts are deleted after 30 days.
Reports
When you report an answer, or a name in a khatam group, we store the reason, any note you add and the answer or group it refers to, linked to your device ID, so that we can review it.
Khatam groups
When you create or join a khatam group, we store the group title, its deadline, the names members enter and the juz each person takes. Anyone with the group link can see these names, so you are welcome to use a nickname. The group creator can remove any name, and anyone can report a name that is not appropriate.
Optional account
An account is never required. If you choose to sign in with Google, Apple or an email code, we store your verified email address (Apple may give us a private relay address instead), your Google or Apple user ID, your name if the provider shares it the first time, and when the account was created and last used. We use this only to run your account, which means keeping Plus, your remaining pack answers and your progress backup with you across up to five devices and the website.
If you sign in with an email code, we send a six-digit code to your address through our email provider, Resend. We store only a keyed hash of the code, the code expires after 10 minutes, and we keep your address in that record so we can limit how often codes are sent.
While you are signed in, the app backs up your progress to our server, covering your habits, khatam plan, last read page and bookmarks in the Quran, dhikr counts, Home layout and settings. The backup never includes your location, mosque times, purchases, tokens or Ask history.
Purchases
Plus subscriptions and answer packs are paid through Google Play or the App Store, and we never see your card or payment details. To unlock what you bought, the app sends us the store's purchase token, which we check with Google Play or Apple, and we keep a record of that token, the product, its expiry date and the device or account it belongs to.
Notifications
Adhan alerts and reminders are scheduled on your phone. We do not use a push notification service and we do not send marketing messages.
This website
islamicgo.com uses no cookies, ads or analytics. Your browser's local storage keeps your theme choice and, if you use Ask or sign in on the website, your device token. When you press Use my location, the nearest city is worked out inside your browser. If you choose Sign in with Google on the website, Google's sign-in script is loaded from Google.
Who processes your data
We share data only with the service providers below, only for the purposes described, and only with providers bound to protect it at least as well as this policy does. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
- Cloudflare hosts our servers, database and this website, so it handles every request, including your IP address, and stores the data described above.
- OpenRouter and Anthropic receive the text of your Ask questions, recent messages in the same conversation, the passages we found, your goal and command text and your app settings without the city name, so they can compose answers and arrange your Home screen.
- Resend receives your email address and the sign-in code it delivers.
- Google receives your sign-in token if you use Sign in with Google and the purchase tokens we check for Google Play purchases. On Android, Google also runs the speech recognition your phone uses for the microphone.
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple and App Store purchases. On iOS, Apple also runs the speech recognition your phone uses for the microphone.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect the safety of our users or the service.
How long we keep data
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Ask questions and answers, with country, model and cost | Up to 90 days, then deleted automatically |
| Goal and command text | Not stored after the reply is sent |
| Daily counts, including keyed hashes of IP addresses | 30 days, then deleted automatically |
| Device ID, platform and language | Until you use Delete my data in the app |
| Reports you send | Until you use Delete my data in the app |
| Khatam groups and member names | Until the creator removes the name, or the creator or that member uses Delete my data |
| Account email, name and Google or Apple ID | Until you delete your account |
| Progress backup | Until you delete your account |
| Email sign-in code | 10 minutes, with your address kept in the record until you delete your account |
| Purchase records | While the purchase is active, and the bare purchase token afterwards so the same purchase cannot be claimed twice |
How we protect it
Every connection to the app's servers and this website uses HTTPS. Data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure, which encrypts it at rest. Device tokens are signed, sign-in codes and IP addresses are stored only as keyed hashes, and only the people who run IslamicGo can access the database. No system is perfectly secure, which is why we collect only what each feature needs.
Delete your data or account
- In the app, open Me, Settings, Delete my data to erase everything on our server linked to your device. That covers your questions and answers, reports, daily counts, groups you created, your name in other groups, pack answers left on that device and the device ID itself.
- In the app, open Me, Settings, Account, Delete account to delete your account, its pack answers, progress backup and sign-in records straight away. You can also do this on the website, and the Delete account page explains every option and what is kept.
- You can email support@islamicgo.com instead, from the address on your account if you have one. We complete email requests within 30 days.
- Data stored only on your phone, such as mosque times and Ask history, is removed when you uninstall the app.
Your choices and rights
You can use IslamicGo without sharing your location by choosing a city, without an account and without Ask. If you agreed to send questions to the AI provider, you can stop at any time by not using Ask and remove what was stored as described above.
Depending on where you live, including California, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Indonesia, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to receive a copy of it, or to object to how we use it. Email support@islamicgo.com and we will respond within 30 days. Using these rights will never change the service you receive.
Where data is processed
Our providers operate servers in many countries, so your data may be processed in the United States and in other countries outside the one you live in.
Children
IslamicGo is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, and if you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will give notice in the app or on this website before they take effect.
